Think about the different ends for your crash barrier

The idea of a crash barrier is to maximise safety. They ensure that vehicles can't collide with each other, pedestrians, buildings, and other obstacles. As a result, you can see them in all kinds of settings, from motorways to city centres.

There is a crucial thing to keep in mind here though; selecting the right ends is very important. You don't want the end of the barrier to become a huge hazard in itself. The worst thing imaginable is it is sharp and capable of spearing a vehicle or harming pedestrians.

There are three styles to consider for your barrier ends. Let's have a look at them so you can see which will be best for you.

End cover

Firstly is a basic plastic cover. They slide over the end of the barrier to protect it, vehicles, and pedestrians. Generally they are PVC to ensure the durability and performance. Bright yellow ones are most common to also maximise the visibility.

Fishtail

The second option has a gentle curving end. This design specifically aims to ensure there is only a very small chance of a blunt force impact if a vehicle strikes the crash barrier. Instead, vehicles tend to get carefully redirected. These are the best option for high traffic areas. The fishtail ends can also be bright yellow or reflective to ensure they are visible.

Pedestrian

Finally is an end that prioritises safety for pedestrians. They are also known as D ends due to the shape. The idea here is that there are no sharp edges so they won't harm anyone. Some can even hold posts, meaning it is easy to add signage too. Yet again you can choose bright colours or reflective options.

One thing to think about

Naturally you need to consider the location, type of traffic, and how busy the area is. However, the most important thing to keep in mind is the end will add to the length of the barrier. Fishtail ends are the longest, whereas the covers tend to be the shortest. You have to factor the extra length in to make sure it won't result in barriers becoming obstructions.
